Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that there were a few offers for his services before he took the job at Tottenham.

Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that there were a few offers for his services before he took the job at Tottenham.

The Portuguese tactician was sacked by Chelsea in March but is already back in the Premier League after taking over at Spurs following the sacking of Harry Redknapp.

34-year old Villas-Boas was the target for a number of other clubs when he was out of work but insists that he waited for the right club to come forward with the right offer.

“Since I stopped there have been a couple of discussions with other clubs, of course,” he told the club’s official website.

“I think a couple of them were even made public but I was always willing to wait for the right opportunity at the right time.

“After the Chelsea step it was important I chose somewhere where I was surrounded by the right commitment and the right people.”

He added: “I think my career has been steadily going up and I see this as a step forward.

“The club is very solid in the way they support the first team, there is much more emotional warmth in this club, and this is important.

“Based on that I want to commit myself to the fact that I was given this opportunity at such an important club and make sure I repay the confidence that was given to me to lead this club forward.”

Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers is tipping Luis Suarez to sign a new contract soon.

The Uruguayan striker has been linked with a possible summer departure from Anfield with a number of clubs showing interest but new Reds boss Rodgers is supremely confident the former Ajax ace will put pen to a new deal.

“I have had a good conversation with Luis over the phone,” Rodgers told the club’s official website.

“From the outset, he has seemed a really good guy. He loves the city and the passion.

“We have exchanged lots of texts. He sent me a text on the first morning, wishing me good luck.

“He has really bought into what we are trying to do.

“He was really excited about how we played at Swansea last year. He is really keen and looking forward to playing in a similar sort of model.

“There has been good dialogue (on a contract). I would hope going forward that we can close that out.”

Leeds secure Kenny from QPR | Transfers | Tribal Football

Leeds United have completed the signing of Paddy Kenny from QPR.

Leeds United have completed the signing of Paddy Kenny from QPR.

The 34-year old goalkeeper will head to Elland Road to reunite with former R’s boss Neil Warnock after signing a three-year deal.

Kenny admits it will be tough to leave Loftus Road but is looking forward to a new challenge in the Championship.

“I’ve loved every single minute of my time at QPR,” Kenny told QPR‘s official website.

“It’s been an incredible two years. Winning promotion to the Premier League here is an experience that I’ll never forget – as was the rollercoaster ride of avoiding relegation last season.

“Everything is now in place for QPR to kick on and become an established Premier League club – and I really do hope that will eventually be the case. Hopefully I’ll be back at Loftus Road as a Premier League player with Leeds United in the very near future.”

Pardew re-iterates stance on Newcastle’s Ba | Premiership News | Tribal Football

Alan Pardew has again spoken of his desire to keep Demba Ba at Newcastle United.

Alan Pardew has again spoken of his desire to keep Demba Ba at Newcastle United.

The Senegalese striker continues to be linked with a Magpies departure this summer but Pardew suggests that he is very much a required player in the North East.

“The situation with Demba has been the same since he arrived at the football club,” Pardew told Sky Sports News HD.

“He has a contract to Newcastle United, he is loved here and he had a brilliant, especially the first half of last season.

“After the African Nations, I think it didn’t go perhaps as well for Demba as it could have. That’s something we’ll look at because we want him to be at his very, very best.

“We’re planning for him to have another great season for us.”

Arsenal’s Szczesny can’t wait to be back in front of Asian fans | Premiership News | Tribal Football

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is excited about the clubs upcoming trip to South East Asia.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is excited about the clubs upcoming trip to South East Asia.

The Gunners are off to Malaysia, China and Hong Kong for their pre-season tour later this month and the Polish gloveman is looking forward to again training and playing in front of some of the world’s most passionate supporters.

“The highlight for me last year was realising how many fans we have so far away from the UK,” Szczesny told Arsenal Player of last year’s Asian trip.

“We were shocked really, we didn’t expect anything like it. We thought we were going to be there for a nice trip, play a couple of games, have a few training sessions, and that’s it, but people were outside the hotel 24/7.

“It gives you the idea of how big a club this is and it’s something that stuck in my mind.

“In every training session just one single good move from a single player gets the fans going. They’re very positive and as I said we enjoyed the trip because of that, because of the fans. That’s what we are looking forward to again.”

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the club is interested in FC Porto’s Joao Moutinho.

The new Spurs boss knows the 25-year old Portugal midfielder well from their time together at Porto and has revealed that he is indeed a player he is looking at this summer.

“He was one of the most important players at Euro2012, of course. He had a fantastic tournament,” said Villas-Boas.

“He is also an important player for Porto and of course counting on players of this dimension will always be interesting for us.

“It does not mean he is the only target we are looking at, but eventually if something happens he is a player we are looking at with some interest.”

Johnson eyes Man City and England regularity | Premiership News | Tribal Football

Adam Johnson says he is planning to work his way back into first team plans with both English champions Manchester City and the England national team.

Adam Johnson says he is planning to work his way back into first team plans with both English champions Manchester City and the England national team.

The 24-year old winger was used mainly as a substitute by Roberto Mancini last season and has completely fallen out of favour with the Three Lions but wants to change that next season by becoming a more consistent player.

“It was pretty hard watching from the sidelines because obviously you want to be out there, helping the lads,” he told City’s official website.

“It’s tough, but you have to keep plugging away and just give your all. We won the title which was the main thing, but obviously you want to feel you’ve played your part, too.

“On a personal level, it was a disappointing end to the season for me because I wasn’t playing for City and then I missed out on Euro 2012 which hurt me a lot, but the key is to bounce back and not dwell on things.

“When I played for City last season I scored a few goals and made a few as well so it took me a while to accept not being able to represent my county at a major championship because the same thing happened at the World Cup two years ago.

“To be fair, Roy Hodgson has been brilliant with me and phoned me to say that he still wanted me to come to Norway and train before the Euros began.

“As far as I’m concerned, I start my bid for the 2014 World Cup from now.”

Newcastle quiet on loan move for Liverpool’s Carroll | Transfers | Tribal Football

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has decided not to comment on the possibility of taking Andy Carroll on loan from Liverpool.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has decided not to comment on the possibility of taking Andy Carroll on loan from Liverpool.

The former Magpies forward, who cost the Reds £35million in January 2011, has been linked with a loan return to St James’ Park this summer but Pardew has preferred to stay out of talk regarding that scenario.

“There is a lot of talk about players when new managers go in and their situations get all cloudy,” he told Sky Sports News HD in relation to Brendan Rodgers taking the reins at Anfield.

“I don’t think that’s completely resolved, one way or the other. I wouldn’t really like to comment.

“He did an absolutely terrific job here. I have always supported him while he has been at Liverpool when other people weren’t. I thought he got a bit of a raw deal, if I’m honest.

“I think he’s going to be a great player, but where he treads the boards, so to speak, we will have to wait and see.”

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel will not be joining Napoli this summer says his agent.

The Slovakian centre-half is being targeted by the Italian club but his representative Karol Csonto insists his client will not be departing Anfield anytime soon.

“It is difficult, almost impossible, for Napoli to take Skrtel,” Csonto told Radio Crc.

“He has another two years on his contract with Liverpool.

“Martin is a top player and it is obvious that many clubs are looking at him, but for now Skrtel remains a Liverpool player.”

Modric talks to continue until agreement is made – Tottenham’s AVB | Transfers | Tribal Football

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas suggests that Luka Modric could be on his way out this summer.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas suggests that Luka Modric could be on his way out this summer.

The Croatian playmaker has been heavily linked with Spanish champions Real Madrid in the past few weeks and although Villas-Boas wants to keep him at White Hart Lane, he has indicated that once an agreement is made, the player could be on his way.

However, it is interesting to hear that Villas-Boas has not named Madrid as a potential home for Modric but rather that ‘various clubs’ are in hot pursuit.

“The interest we have from various different clubs shows the importance of the player and what he’s done for Tottenham,” Villas-Boas told Sky Sports News.

“It’s fair to say that the club respects Luka’s ambitions and his willingness to move on and he respects the fact that he’s an important player for the club and can help us move forward.

“Ongoing discussions will continue with these clubs until we reach an agreement which is acceptable for each party.”
